Description bursitis

Bursit – inflammation of the bursa. Bursa is a thin tissue, which protects the tendon. Tendons – cloth, that connect muscles to bones. Bursa reduces friction between the tendon and bone, allowing the tendon to glide easily on the bones.

Bursitis most often occurs in the joints of the following parts of the body:

  • Shoulder;
  • Elbow;
  • Knee;
  • Hip.

Causes of bursitis

Acute bursitis may cause:

Risk factors for bursitis

Diagnosis of bursitis

Treatment for bursitis

Acute bursitis may include:

  • Physical therapy, including exercise and the use of heat;
  • Cortisone injections;
  • Operation.

Prevention of bursitis

Steps, to help prevent bursitis:

  • Do not overreach in sports and intensive loads;
  • When new kinds of load, gradually increase the duration and intensity;
  • When you exercise, make sure, that you are doing the exercises correctly;
  • Wear protective gear when playing contact sports.
