Elbow dislocation
Elbow Dislocation
What is a dislocated elbow?
Elbow consists of 3 's bones – the humerus upper arm, as well as the RADIUS and ulna bones of the forearm. The lower part of the humerus is included in the joint cavity ulna. The upper end of the x-ray bone adjacent to the end of the humerus bone hands and allows you to rotate the forearm. Connects bones and keeps them in place while moving a bunch of ligaments.
Elbow dislocation occurs, When bones are displaced from their normal location. It is often associated with damage to the ligaments, and sometimes with bone injury. Restricts dislocation motor ability of hands, and makes it impossible to perform certain movements.
Causes of dislocation of elbow
Elbow dislocation occurs when a sudden traumatic effects on the elbow, eg, such as a fall on the outstretched hand.
Risk factors for dislocation of elbow
Factors, that can increase the likelihood of dislocation of elbow:
- The instability of the structure of the bones of the elbow joint;
- Previous trauma or surgery on the elbow joint;
- Athletics.
Symptoms of elbow dislocation
Dislocation of the elbow may have the following symptoms:
- Severe pain in the elbow with or without edema;
- Pain when moving the elbow;
- Difficulty bending arms or movement of the forearm;
- Injury;
- Anomaly of the elbow.
Diagnosis of dislocation of elbow
The doctor will ask about your symptoms, About, how the accident occurred, hold examination the injured elbow. Elbow will be examined for the presence of edema and pain. A doctor can diagnose a dislocated elbow based on symptoms, without additional tests.
To confirm the dislocation of elbow, and to detect a possible bone fracture, X-rays may be appointed.
Can also be assigned to other tests, to detect possible nerve damage, blood vessels or ligaments. For this purpose:
- CT scan;
- MRT.
Elbow dislocation is differentiated depending on its severity:
- Easy dislocation – no strong bone injuries;
- Complex dislocation of elbow – There are bone fractures and damage to surrounding tissue, such as ligament, nerves, and blood vessels.
Elbow dislocation treatment
The doctor can move the bones of the elbow, to insert them into place. Before you perform this procedure, the affected are given pain medicine, to relieve the pain and help relax. After installing the bones in place assigned medication, to reduce swelling and pain.
Other aspects of the treatment of dislocation of the elbow depends on its severity and other tissue damage.
Elbow dislocation immobilization
The elbow joint is immobilized using splints or slings, that will help him heal properly. Bus or waistadorn, perhaps, you will need to wear to 3 weeks, even if it was a simple dislocation.
Physiotherapy in dislocation of elbow
Exercise and rehabilitation is an important part of recovering from a shoulder dislocation. Exercises should be started as soon as possible, to prevent stiffness and loss of mobility of the elbow.
Physical therapy can help restore power, range of motion and flexibility of elbow joint.
Surgery with dislocation of elbow
Integrated elbow dislocation may require surgery for:
- Restore the correct position of the bones, ligaments and tissues in area of dislocation;
- Stitching damaged bones, ligaments, blood vessels, or nerves.
To support the bones on the healing period may be necessary mechanical devices. May also be a need for further operations in the future, to improve range of motion and remove scar tissue.
Prevention of dislocation of elbow
To reduce the likelihood of dislocation of elbow:
- Not, smooth hand when falling. Try to fall to one side and perekatit′sâ;
- Wear protective gear and stick the correct techniques when playing sports exercises;
- Build up muscle strength hands, regularly performing the exercise.
