Characteristic.

Polyene antibiotics, produced by actinomyces Streptomyces noursei.

Light yellow powder with a specific smell. Bitter taste. Practically insoluble in water, very little - in alcohol. Hygroscopic. Decomposed by light, heat, air oxygen. Easily destroyed in acidic and alkaline conditions and under the action of oxidizers. Molecular weight 926,13.

The activity is expressed in units of (ED).

Pharmacological action.
Antifungal, fungistatic.

Application.

Prevention of candidiasis in long-term treatment with antibacterial drugs, especially in malnourished and debilitated patients; mucosal candidiasis (incl. vagina, rectum and lower intestine) and skin.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity, abnormal liver function, pancreatitis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, pregnancy.

Side effects.

Allergic reactions (incl. itching and rashes, fever, chills); If ingestion is a bitter taste in the mouth, dyspepsia (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain); When applying the agents — vaginal irritation, not marked before treatment; When an external application-skin irritation, not marked before treatment. Perhaps the emergence of drug-resistant forms of fungi (It requires the preparation).

Cooperation.

In an application with clotrimazole Nystatin activity of the latter is reduced.

Dosing and Administration.

Inside. Adults: by 500000 U 3-4 times a day; daily dose-1.5-3 million IU, in severe cases, up to 4-6 million IU. Babies: to 1 year - 100000 ED, from 1 Year to 3 years - 250000 U 3-4 times a day, senior 13 years are 250000-500000 U 3-4 times a day. Average duration of treatment is 10-14 days. If necessary to repeat courses (with a break between courses). The duration of treatment and the need for repeated courses determined by the physician.

Locally (rectally or intravaginal): on the 250000-500000 U 2 once a day (in the morning and in the evening).

Outwardly. The ointment is applied in a thin layer on the skin surface 2 once a day. Applying an ointment can be combined with oral.

Precautions.

Fungal diseases of the vagina to the simultaneous treatment of sexual partner. During treatment avoid sexual contacts. During menstruation, the treatment should not be interrupted.
