Ganglion Cyst (Cyst, Ganglion; Ganglion)

What is a ganglion?

Ganglii – cyst, a fluid-filled cavity. Ganglii, usually, located in the tissue, that surrounds the tendon, or joints of the hands. Ganglia often appear on the back of the wrist. But they may also appear on the lower side of the wrist, fingers or toes. The ganglia are not malignancies.

Causes of ganglion

Causes of ganglion are not known.

Risk Factors ganglion

Ganglia are more common in young men and women. Occupation sports, in which a lot of repetitive wrist movement increases the likelihood of ganglion.

Symptoms ganglion

Symptoms of ganglion may include:

  • Soft bump, usually on the back of the wrist;
  • Pain or tenderness at the site of swelling. Sometimes ganglia do not cause pain.

Diagnosis ganglion

The doctor will ask about your symptoms and medical history, and perform a physical examination. Most ganglion cysts are easily diagnosed based on the location and appearance.

If the diagnosis is not clear, doctor may perform image internal structures of the problem domain, or perform a biopsy, to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment of ganglion

Some ganglia disappear, without treatment. If the cyst is causing pain or unsightly, your doctor may prescribe treatment. However, even after treatment, the ganglion may reappear.
