Characteristic.

Montelukast sodium is hygroscopic, optically active, white or almost white powder. Freely soluble in ethanol, methanol and water; practically insoluble in acetonitrile. Molecular weight 608,18.

Pharmacological action.
Bronchodilator.

Application.

Prevention and long-term treatment of bronchial asthma, including the prevention of disease symptoms during the day and at night, treatment of asthma in patients with hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid, the prevention of bronchospasm, exercise-induced. Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, lactation, childhood (to 6 years).

Pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Category actions result in FDA - B. (The study of reproduction in animals revealed no risk of adverse effects on the fetus, and adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have not done.)

Side effects.

From the nervous system and sensory organs: strange vivid dreams, hallucinations, drowsiness, irritability, excitation, including aggressive behavior, fatiguability, insomnia, paresthesia / gipestezii, headache; very rarely, seizures apnoea.

From the digestive tract: nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, diarrhea, abdominal pain.

On the part of the musculoskeletal system: arthralgia, myalgia, including muscle cramps.

Allergic reactions: anaphylaxis, angioedema, rash, itch, hives; very rarely is the eosinophil infiltration of the liver.

Other: the trend to increased bleeding, the formation of subcutaneous hemorrhage, heartbeat, swelling, flu-like symptoms, cough, sinusitis, pharyngitis, transaminase elevation.

Cooperation.

Compatible with glucocorticoids (additive effect). Phenobarbital of 40% reduces AUC.

Dosing and Administration.

Inside. Adults and children over 15 years - 1 Table. (10 mg) for the night (before bedtime); children 6-14 years- 1 Table. Chewing (5 mg) in the evening (before bedtime).

Precautions.

You must strictly adhere to the treatment regimen. It is recommended to continue taking after reaching significant improvement. Do not use for the relief of acute asthma attacks (not a substitute for inhaled bronchodilators); when a therapeutic effect (usually after the first dose), bronchodilators number of inhalations during the day can be reduced.
